Caring for Your Upholstered Divan Bed

Our upholstered divan beds are made to order by skilled makers in the UK, with careful attention to structure, comfort and fabric detail. Each piece is designed to offer quiet support and a refined presence in the room. With thoughtful care, both the upholstery and frame will maintain their quality over time.

Cleaning

  • Dust regularly using a soft brush attachment to lift surface dust from the upholstery.

  • For light marks, use a clean, lightly damp cloth and follow immediately with a dry one.

  • Always blot. Never rub.

  • Avoid abrasive cloths or household detergents which can damage the fabric or alter its colour.

  • For a deeper clean, we recommend a professional upholstery specialist.

Everyday Care

  • Rotate mattresses or toppers as recommended by the manufacturer to distribute weight evenly across the frame.

  • Keep the divan away from prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the tone and integrity of the fabric.

  • Ensure good ventilation beneath and around the bed to prevent moisture build up, especially with natural fabrics.

Placement and Handling

  • When cleaning beneath the bed or repositioning it, always lift the divan rather than dragging it.

  • To safeguard the central supporting legs, lifting should be done by at least two people.

  • Dragging places unnecessary strain on the structure and may result in damage to the frame or its joints.

  • Ensure the bed is positioned on an even, stable surface, with castors or glides properly aligned.

Longevity Notes

Natural settling of the upholstery and frame may occur with use. This is part of the nature of a well made piece.

If a small thread loosens, do not pull it. Trim with care or seek advice from a professional upholsterer.

If the bed requires structural adjustment or reupholstery in the future, we recommend using an experienced maker familiar with crafted furniture.
