Caring for Your Painted Timber Furniture

Our painted furniture is designed to balance durability with a refined aesthetic. We offer two distinct finishes: a high sheen Gloss and a softly brushed Satin. Each piece is painted in multiple layers and sealed to enhance depth of colour while protecting the timber beneath.

With considered everyday care, the surface will retain its clarity, richness and character over time.

Understanding Your Finish

Gloss

Our signature Gloss finish is a 90% gloss lacquer applied using a PU based paint system. It is spray finished and repeatedly hand sanded to achieve a smooth, high sheen surface with depth and reflectivity.

Gloss is technically more hard wearing and resistant to surface damage. However, due to its higher sheen level, small scratches or marks may be more visible, similar to a high gloss automotive finish.

Satin

Our Satin finish has a 10% sheen level, similar to an eggshell paint. It is a water based paint, hand brushed to create a subtle texture with visible brush strokes that reveal the hand of the painter.

While Satin is slightly less resistant to scratching than Gloss, its softer sheen and brushed texture tend to disguise minor marks more effectively, making everyday wear less noticeable.

Both finishes are sealed for protection and should be treated with care to maintain their appearance.

Cleaning

Dust regularly using a clean, dry microfibre or soft cotton cloth.

For light marks or spills, wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth, then dry immediately with a lint free cloth.

Avoid abrasive cloths, scouring pads or harsh detergents, which may damage or dull the painted surface.

Do not use waxes, polishes, silicone based products or solvent cleaners, as these can affect the finish over time.

If unsure, always test any cleaning method on an inconspicuous area first.

Protecting the Surface

Always use coasters, placemats or felt pads beneath glasses, ceramics and decorative objects.

Avoid placing hot items directly on the surface, as heat can cause marking or softening of the paint finish.

Wipe spills promptly to prevent moisture ingress or staining.

Sunlight and Placement

Position furniture away from prolonged direct sunlight, which may lead to gradual colour change over time.

In brighter rooms, use curtains or blinds to soften light and reduce exposure.

Avoid placing furniture close to radiators, fireplaces or air conditioning units.

Temperature and Humidity

Timber responds naturally to its environment. Maintain a stable indoor climate where possible, avoiding extreme fluctuations in temperature or humidity.

Poor ventilation, excessive damp or very dry conditions may affect both the timber and painted surface.

If required, use a humidifier or dehumidifier to help maintain balance.

Handling with Care

Lift objects rather than dragging them across the surface to prevent scratching.

Use felt pads beneath decorative items and avoid placing sharp or heavy objects directly on the furniture.

Maintenance and Repair

Inspect surfaces periodically for early signs of wear and address promptly to avoid deeper damage.

If the painted finish becomes chipped or worn, avoid DIY repairs. Please contact our team for guidance so we can advise on appropriate professional restoration options.
