Caring for Your Lacquered Trays

Our trays are handcrafted in Bali by skilled artisans using solid mahogany and a painted rattan insert. Each layer of primer, paint and lacquer is applied with care, then hand sanded and buffed to achieve a smooth, refined finish. With thoughtful use and simple maintenance, the surface will retain its depth and clarity for years.

Cleaning

  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth.

  • For light cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth and follow immediately with a dry one.

  • Avoid abrasive cloths, chemical cleaners or solvents which may mark the lacquer or painted rattan.

  • Do not use wax or silicone polishes. These can dull the surface over time.

  • Always lift items placed on the tray rather than sliding them to avoid fine scratches.

Everyday Care

  • Keep the tray away from prolonged direct sunlight or strong artificial light as this may affect the tone of the painted finish.

  • Avoid placing very hot or very cold objects directly on the surface. Use coasters or a protective base where needed.

  • Wipe spills promptly to prevent water marks.

  • The rattan insert is a natural material and should be kept dry. If moisture occurs, blot gently and allow it to air dry fully.

Placement

  • Use the tray on a clean, dry and level surface.

  • Each piece has silicone feet to protect the furniture beneath. Take care not to drag or push the tray across delicate finishes.

  • If used for serving, ensure the weight is balanced across the frame rather than concentrated in one area.

Longevity Notes

Slight tonal variation is a natural result of the paint and lacquer process and is part of the character of each handmade piece.

Over time, fine changes in the rattan texture may appear. These are inherent to the material.

If a small chip or noticeable scratch occurs, avoid at home repairs. A professional finisher can restore the lacquer with precision.

Where possible, store the tray flat when not in use to preserve the integrity of the frame and rattan centre.
