Caring for Your Flat Weave Rug
Our flat weave rugs are made to order and handwoven by skilled artisans in India. Each piece is created with natural fibres such as jute and wool, chosen for their warmth, texture and gentle variation. Subtle shifts in tone or size are part of their nature and contribute to the quiet character of a handmade rug.
Cleaning
- Vacuum lightly with a brushless attachment to lift dust and keep the weave clear.
- If a spill occurs, blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub.
- For a deeper clean, we recommend a professional rug specialist with experience in natural fibres.
Everyday Care
- Rotate the rug from time to time to encourage even wear and to protect the colour from light exposure.
- Place away from strong direct sunlight where possible to preserve the natural tones.
- Use an underlay to support the weave and prevent movement.
- Keep the rug dry. Jute and wool are organic materials and respond best to a balanced environment.
-
If the rug becomes damp, allow it to air dry fully before placing furniture back on it.
Placement
- Position on a clean, dry and even surface.
- A rug pad will help maintain the shape and weight of the piece, especially on hard floors.
-
Where furniture rests on the rug, use felt pads to soften pressure and protect the fibres.
Longevity Notes
Natural fibres mellow gently over time. A softening in texture or tone is expected and adds to the lived in quality of the piece.
If a small thread loosens, do not pull it. Trim with care or seek advice from a professional restorer.
